14 October 2021TİKA Supports Emergency Medicine Capacity of Senegal
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) organized the Introduction to Emergency Response Training (ADG+) for Senegalese health care personnel in cooperation with the Turkish, Sudanese and Senegalese Ministries of Health as part of the Emergency Medicine Capacity Building Program (ATKAP).
In the context of this project, Sudanese doctors who had already received related training in Turkey with the support of TİKA gave Introduction to Emergency Response Training (ADG+) to 24 Senegalese health care personnel, selected by the Senegalese Ministry of Health, for 5 days in the Senegalese capital Dakar under the supervision of Turkish trainers.
Trainers gave theoretical and applied education to participants in topics such as accident scene management, emergency patient care, approach to trauma cases, patient transfer techniques, teamwork, disaster management, infection control after disaster, triage, hospital planning for disaster response, and emergency care management. Successful participants were given certificates at the end of the training.
His Excellency the Turkish Ambassador to Dakar Mr. Ahmet Kavas, TİKA's Dakar Coordinator Kenan Yiğit and the Hopital General Idrissa Pouye’s Managing Director Ababacar Fall attended the certification ceremony.
In his speech at the ceremony, Turkish Ambassador to Dakar Ahmet KAVAS thanked everyone who took part in the project and expressed how happy he was to see the two countries cooperate.
On the other hand, TİKA's Dakar Program Coordinator Kenan Yiğit said the project aimed for the trainings to continue locally and stated that TİKA would like to increase the number of healthcare-related projects in Senegal. Yiğit thanked project stakeholders for their contributions.
The Managing Director of the hospital, Ababacar Fall, expressed how pleased he was with the participation of Senegalese health care personnel in such a high-quality training and thanked the Republic of Turkey and TİKA as well as Turkish and Sudanese trainers.
In the later stages of the project, trainer candidates will be selected from the Senegalese trainers, brought to Turkey, and given advanced training. Later, these new trainers will give training to other Senegalese healthcare personnel. In this way, the project will improve local Senegalese trainer capacity.
The Introduction to Emergency Response Trainings (ADG+) which have been given in Sudan, Djibouti, Chad, Somalia, Guinea, Niger, Gambia, and Senegal since 2017 as part of TİKA's Emergency Medicine Capacity Building Program (ATKAP) are planned to be expanded to other countries.
