TİKA Supports Children with Autism in Algeria

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) built an education center for children with autism in Algeria. The center, which will serve approximately 50 children with autism, will be put in service in the 2020-2021 school year.

Built within the National Foundation for Health Progress and Research Development (FOREM), located in the village of Bentalha in Algiers, the capital of Algeria, the education center has 4 classrooms, 1 events hall, and 4 individual rooms. The center will also train special education teachers and psychologists from different cities of Algeria on new methods in the education of children with autism.

President of FOREM Prof. Mustafa Hayati stated that the foundation, which is located in the village of Bentalha, one of the regions that were most affected by the terrorist attacks in Algeria in the 1990s, provided shelter and education to many children who were orphaned due to terrorist attacks. He said that TİKA has provided significant support to them so far and that the education center built by TİKA for the education of children with autism will address an important need.
