11 October 2022TİKA Supports Calligraphy in Afghanistan
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) renovated the Calligraphers’ House, located in Herat, Afghanistan, and affiliated with the Provincial Directorate of Information and Culture of Herat, and put the house into service for Afghan calligraphers.
The opening ceremony was attended by Sinan İlhan, the Republic of Türkiye’s Consul General to Herat; Naimullah Haqqani, Provincial Director of Information and Culture of Herat; and Arafat Deniz, TİKA’s Coordinator in Herat. In his speech at the ceremony, the Provincial Director of Information and Culture stated that Türkiye’s assistance to Afghanistan has strengthened the ties of solidarity between the two countries, and that TİKA’s support has been remarkable.
Sinan İlhan, the Republic of Türkiye’s Consul General to Herat, also delivered a speech and noted that Türkiye stands in solidarity with Afghanistan at all times and continues its activities with all its foreign representative offices.
Arafat Deniz, TİKA’s Coordinator in Herat, stressed that TİKA has been active in many fields, particularly in the fields of education and health, in Afghanistan, and that the cultural and arts projects implemented during the humanitarian and economic crisis in Afghanistan helped local people breathe a sigh of relief.
Mir Wali Ahmad Sabri, Chairman of Herat Calligraphers’ Association, noted that their association has been active since 1991 and that thousands of students have so far graduated from 537 different departments affiliated with the association. Sabri added that they appreciated TİKA’s continuous support for and solidarity with artists from Herat.
