TİKA Supports Beekeeping in Tunisia

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) continues to incentivize beekeeping activities with honey bees in Beja district in Tunisia.

Having previously implemented a beekeeping project intended for farmers in Tabouba region of Beja, TİKA supported 15 families of farmers living in the rural region of Nefza district of Beja province in Tunisia this year in cooperation with Beja Regional Commissariat for Agricultural Development (CRDA) and Oued el-Maaden Agricultural Development Group (GDA) by providing 150 beehives and honey bee colonies as well as other equipment as required for beekeeping.

In addition to technical training on beekeeping as provided by CRDA to 15 young farmers as determined by Oued el-Maaden Agricultural Development Group with the sponsorship of TİKA, materials and equipment as required by each farmer within the scope of beekeeping, honey production, and marketing activities were also provided.

Within the scope of the project, each farmer received 10 beehives and honey bee colonies in addition to a beekeeper’s kit consisting of a beekeeper suit, fencing hood, gloves, brush, and smoker as well as other materials as required for beekeeping activities. In addition, beekeeping equipment such as electric honey extractor and honey conditioning equipment was delivered to Oued el-Maaden Agricultural Development Group to be made available to farmers for common use.
