TİKA Supports Agriculture in Gabon

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided a cooperative operating in Gabon with agricultural equipment for cocoa and banana cultivation.

At the ceremony held at the Turkish Embassy in Libreville, various agricultural equipment and materials were delivered to a local cooperative that grows bananas on a land of nearly 30 hectares in Andem, Gabon, in order to increase agricultural productivity and enable cocoa production.

The ceremony was attended by Nilüfer Kaygısız, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Libreville; Maximin Magoualamangoye, Director-General of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Gabon; Ndoutoume Bekale Georges Martin, Director of European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Gabon; Burak Özden, TİKA’s Coordinator in Yaoundé; officials of the cooperative; and invitees.

In her speech at the ceremony, Ambassador Kaygısız stressed that TİKA’s projects helped Türkiye share its knowledge and experience with its African partners, and that the development projects implemented by TİKA in Gabon since 2013 worth more than $450,000.

Koumba Mounguengui Jean, Chairperson of the cooperative, thanked the Turkish Embassy in Libreville, TİKA, and Türkiye and stated that they were very happy with the support provided and would immediately start to use the new tools and equipment.

As part of the project, 32 items were donated, including chainsaws, water pumps, and a solar-powered projector, as well as fertilizers, seedlings, and many pieces of agricultural equipment. The project aims to increase banana production by 60 percent and ensure the production of high-quality cocoa.
