TİKA Supports Agricultural Education in Chad

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) laid the foundations of the school of applied agriculture to support the agricultural development of the Central African country of Chad.

Turkey’s Ambassador to Chad Kemal Kaygısız, TİKA’s Chad Coordinator Melih Mücahid Ateş, and Mayor of N'Djamena Saleh Abdelaziz Damane attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the school of agriculture to be built on the former N’Djamena race track in N'Djamena, the capital of Chad, as part of the Chad-Turkey Friendship Complex Project.

In his statement at the ceremony, TİKA’s Chad Coordinator Ateş stated that TİKA has implemented more than 80 projects in Chad since 2013 and that the Chad-Turkey Friendship Complex Project is one of its largest projects in Africa. Ateş said that the school of applied agriculture to be built as part of the Chad-Turkey Friendship Complex Project would make a significant contribution to the development of the country.

Nearly one-third of Chad is covered by deserts, and although 30% of its total land area is arable, these lands cannot be cultivated for technical reasons. 80% of Chad’s population is engaged in traditional forms of agriculture and animal husbandry.
