19 August 2022TİKA Supported the Promotion of Historical Landmarks in the TRNC
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Famagusta Walled City Association (MASDER) created explanatory signboards in Turkish and English to contribute to the promotion of 52 historical landmarks in the Walled City of Famagusta.
TİKA and MASDER created explanatory signboards in Turkish and English to contribute to the promotion of 52 historical landmarks in the Walled City of Famagusta, with the support of the Department of Antiquities of the TRNC, Famagusta Municipality, and Eastern Mediterranean University. The signboards, which serve as ID cards for the landmarks, were supported with smart QR codes. Visitors can scan the QR codes with their mobile phones and access detailed information about the landmarks.
Audio descriptions for people with visual impairments
The signboards feature audio descriptions for people with visual impairments and are placed at a height that will allow people with orthopedic impairments to read them easily. Maps were placed in five different locations for easy navigation between the landmarks from the Lusignan, Venetian, and Ottoman era in the Walled City of Famagusta. Furthermore, leaflets showing walking routes in 2 different languages (English and Turkish) were produced.
Thanks to the cooperation, visitors are now able to visit and learn about all the historical landmarks in the Walled City of Famagusta and in the surrounding area without a guide.
