TİKA's Erenler Sofrası is in Andalusia, Spain

As part of the “Erenler Sofrası” Ramadan Program, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) distributed 350 food packages to 70 families in the Andalusia region of Spain.

The financial difficulties caused by the quarantine restrictions in Spain, which has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, have had an impact on the livelihood of many families. With the cooperation of TİKA and the Granada Mosque Foundation, food packages have been delivered to 70 families each Friday during Ramadan.

The Great Mosque of Granada, where the distribution took place, became the first place of worship of the Muslim community living in the Andalusia region of Spain when it was built in 2003, located right across the Alhambra which is considered the pinnacle of Islamic architecture in Spain.

In his speech, Umar del Pozo, the President of the Great Mosque of Granada Foundation, stated that the social and financial difficulties caused by the pandemic in Spain have also had a huge impact on the Muslim community in Granada, that many people lost their livelihoods, and that many families who had already been in a tight spot have now been facing serious financial problems.

Having stated that these families needed this aid more than ever in order to meet their basic food needs during the month of Ramadan, Umar del Pozo said: “During these hard times, the solidarity that has been shown by Turkey had made the ties of brotherhood stronger between us. I'd like to thank TİKA and Turkey.”

The Ramadan activities, which are being organized for the third time in Spain this year, were also organized in 2019 and 2020 by TİKA.
