12 June 2020TİKA Reached Nearly 700,000 People in Need in 66 Countries in Ramadan
From Africa to the Americas and from Asia to Europe, serving Turkic groups, victims of terrorism, and people in need in the regions where it operates, regardless of their language, religion, or ethnicity, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) reached nearly 700,000 people in need in 66 countries through more than 100 projects this Ramadan.
In Ramadan, TİKA continued its assistance and support activities all around the world and reached 524,865 people with its food assistance projects and 133,757 people with its hygiene assistance projects, distributing 106,285 parcels to people in need during the month of Ramadan.
This Ramadan, TİKA provided food aid to 700 families in the most impoverished regions of Lesotho, which is completely surrounded by South Africa.
As the COVID-19 threat continues, TİKA also provided disinfectants, gloves, and masks to Lesotho as part of Turkey’s support for the fight against the outbreak.
– TİKA provided food aid to 22,500 people in Pakistan
During the month of Ramadan, TİKA distributed 4,000 parcels and provided 70 tons of food to 22,500 people in Pakistan.
In his speech at the distribution ceremony of the food aid, President of Pakistan Arif Alvi stated that countries such as Turkey and Pakistan understand each other since they shoulder the burden of refugees on their own, and said, “As Turkey and Pakistan, we open our hearts to refugees because we will give an account for it to Allah.”
In Iraq, TİKA distributed food parcels to 5,000 families in need in governorates such as Mosul, Tal Afar, Diyala, and Saladin as part of its Ramadan assistance activities.
In his statement about the assistance, Vice President of the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITF) Hasan Turan reminded that Turkey had previously provided thousands of masks to Iraq to combat COVID-19, and expressed his gratitude to Turkey for standing in solidarity with the Iraqi and Turkmen people all the time.
– Ramadan aid to Muslims in Spain
TİKA and the Granada Mosque Foundation distributed food parcels to 100 Muslim families in need every Friday during the month of Ramadan in the city of Granada in Andalusia, Spain, which is one of the countries that have been affected the most by COVID-19.
TİKA also delivered aid parcels containing food items and hygiene products to 300 families in Maicao, Colombia, and 150 families in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
– Food aid to 1,000 families in the TRNC
With TİKA’s support, parcels containing approximately 25 tons of food, including staples, milk, dates, tea, coffee, and domestic products from Cyprus, were distributed to 1,000 families in need in Nicosia, Kyrenia, Famagusta, Morphou, and Lefka.
In addition, a total of 40 tons of food was distributed to 2,500 families in Akhaltsikhe, Adjara, Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Imereti, and Samegrelo in Georgia.
As part of its annual traditional Ramadan activities in the Philippines, 600 food parcels were distributed to families in need in Dungguan in Datu Montawal, Maguindanao, located on the island of Mindanao, which is heavily populated by Muslims.
In Kyrgyzstan, food parcels that also contain 10 masks and antiseptic solutions were distributed to 7,000 families to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.
– TİKA provided food aid to 1,000 families affected by COVID-19 in Guinea
As part of its Ramadan activities in the West African country of Guinea, TİKA provided food aid to 1,000 families in need who were adversely affected by COVID-19.
In Sudan, a total of 34 tons of food was provided to 2,000 families in Shagarab Camp, which is located in Kassala State and hosts Eritrean refugees.
Food parcels containing 17 tons of food were distributed to more than 2,000 people in camps for the displaced in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, and in the cities of Sululta and Legetafo in the Oromia Region. A total of 50 tons of food was distributed to Ethiopian people in need during the month of Ramadan.
TİKA provided food aid to 500 families who had to leave their homes in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia and live in the region of Garas Baley. Food parcels containing rice, flour, pasta, sugar, and vegetable oil were distributed to families in the camp during the month of Ramadan.
– Food and meat aid to families in need in Yemen
TİKA distributed aid parcels to 7,500 families in need in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which are under Israeli occupation, as part of its support for the Palestinian people in the fields of healthcare, food, and social services during the month of Ramadan. It also provided aid parcels to 5,060 families in need in Gaza.
In Yemen, 1,500 food parcels and 500 shares of meat were delivered to families with disadvantaged and unemployed members, especially to those in women's shelters, in the governorates of Aden, Lahij, and Dhale before Eid al-Fitr.
5,000 food parcels and 5,000 cleaning supplies were delivered to refugees from Rakhine who live in camps in Bangladesh. TİKA employees delivered the food parcels to the houses of the elderly and patients in person.
In addition, Ramadan parcels were distributed to 1,000 families in need in the rural region of Chakaria in Bangladesh.
