TİKA Provides Prosthetic Machinery to People with Disabilities in Georgia

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided new prosthetic machinery to Tbilisi Disabled Persons’ Social Rehabilitation Center, which serves all civilians and military personnel in need in Georgia. 

The handover ceremony held at Disabled Persons’ Social Rehabilitation Center in the capital Tbilisi was attended by the center’s director Tea Eristavi, Turkish Ambassador to Tbilisi Fatma Ceren Yazgan, TİKA Tbilisi Assistant Coordinator Nejla Demirdağ, Ministry of Defense of Georgia Social Works and Psychological Support Department Director Giorgi Chokhonelidze and other officials.  Ambassador Yazgan and other officials visited all sections of the center and talked to people with disabilities in need. Yazgan received detailed information about the activities of the center from the doctors and officials working there. Meanwhile, TİKA Tbilisi Assistant Coordinator Demirdağ stated that TİKA has been working on various fields in Georgia since 1994 and helping Georgian institutions on health care is very meaningful and important for them.

Demirdağ pointed out that Tbilisi Disabled Persons’ Social Rehabilitation Center produces orthopedic and prosthetic materials to nearly 15,000 people with disabilities across Georgia and said, “All prosthetic making machinery of the center was supplied by TİKA. Turkey has completed yet another great project on healthcare in Georgia.”  The ceremony was also attended by young volunteers who were in Georgia as part of the 2018 Experience Sharing Program, which is organized for the second time this year through the coordination of TİKA and in cooperation with Turkish Airlines (THY), Anadolu Agency (AA) and Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT). The machinery supplied to the center includes, electric plaster saw, plaster mold clamp, heat gun, socket processing polishing machine, etc.

Tbilisi Disabled Persons’ Social Rehabilitation Center is being operated by the Ministry of Defense of Georgia. The institution serves all civilians and military personnel in need with its “Social Rehabilitation and Child Care State Program” and “Prosthetic-Orthopedic Material Provision” programs.   In 2013, TİKA also provided support for the renovation of the heating system and the entrance section.
