TİKA Provides Assistance 1100 Families Affected by the Raids on Gaza

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Palestine’s Ministry of Social Development in Gaza have distributed 500 food parcels, 500 pillows, 500 beds, 300 bags of kitchen utensils, 300 gas cylinders for cooking, and 300 stoves to 1100 Palestinian families who were affected by the recent raids on the Gaza Strip.

Speaking to an AA reporter, 76-year-old Silmiyyah al-Sawarka, the oldest surviving member of the Sawarka family, expressed her gratitude to TİKA for its assistance. Sawarka said, “We are grateful to Turkey for helping children and us. My two sons were martyred in the raids with their wives and children. 4 missiles hit their homes at night while they were asleep. Both families were killed. Israel has torn my heart out. May God tear their hearts out in return.”

70-year-old Hammad Abu Shabab, whose house was destroyed in the raids, said that he and his family had to live in a container. Noting that it was very difficult to live in a container, Shabab said, “We are grateful to the Turkish people and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the representative of Muslim countries, for their support to the Palestinian people.” 

– “I can’t even afford my family’s basic needs"

Muhammad as-Sirfi, one of the Palestinians who received aid from TİKA, said, “I can’t even afford my family’s basic needs. My kids couldn’t even have breakfast. I can’t give them allowance when I send them to school.” Stating that the economic conditions are very bad in Gaza, Sirfi said, “We are deeply grateful to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Turkish government for helping us in these bad conditions.”

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) has been fulfilling the needs of Palestinians with nearly 400 projects in the last 10 years. Through the Palestinian Office opened in 2005, TİKA has implemented hundreds of projects in areas such as education, health, emergency assistance, water and public health, production industry, protection of the common historical heritage, and strengthening of the administrative and civilian infrastructure. Built by TİKA in the Gaza Strip at a cost of nearly $62 million, Palestine-Turkey Friendship Hospital will become operational soon. The hospital is claimed to be “Palestine’s largest and most modern hospital.”

Thousands of Palestinians study in the 6 schools that were opened by TİKA in different cities in Palestine in the light of the motto “One School in Each Palestinian City.” Supporting the agricultural development in Palestine, TİKA has built the Abasan Olive Oil Production Facility, Palestine’s most modern olive oil production facility, for the farmers in Gaza.

– The Prophet Moses Festival

The Prophet Moses Festival was revived with the support of TİKA. Organized for the first time by Salahuddin al-Ayyubi in 1187 to show the strength of Muslims and ended after the Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem in 1967, the Prophet Moses Festival was revived in 2014 with the support of TİKA.
