TİKA Provided Machinery to Leather and Shoe Producers in Colombia

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided industrial machinery to micro-entrepreneurs active in the sector of leather and shoe production in the municipalities of Corozal and Sampués.

The industry of leather products and shoes in Colombia stands out as one of the most important sectors that directly influence the reported and unreported employment of the citizens in the region, especially in the Sucre Department.

Within this scope, in cooperation with the government of Sucre, TİKA provided industrial machinery to the micro-entrepreneurs in both municipalities (Corozal and Sampués).

Two opening ceremonies were organized within the scope of the “100th Anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye” ceremonies. The first one took place in the Municipality of Corozal, and the second one took place in the Municipality of Sampués.

The ceremonies were attended by the Governor of Sucre, Héctor Olimpo Espinosa; Sucre Department’s First Lady, Marianella Peñaranda Villamizar; Municipality of Corozal Secretary of Socioeconomic Development, Roger Ramos; Mayor of Sampués, Saira Bernarda Vergara Perez; Legal Representative of ASOARTCOS Association, Manuel Francisco Pérez; Legal Representative of ASMITASAN Association, Carlos Vergara and members of the association, who are charitable craftsmen.

Governor of Sucre, Espinosa, started his speech by congratulating the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye and said: “Regional jobs are so important because if there are no jobs, producing the sense of ownership and knowledge from scratch would take a lot of time and may not be successful. If there is a job in the region, what is left to do is to improve it, which creates value and a virtuous cycle that will certainly create development, freedom, and employment.”

Legal Representative of ASMITASAN Association, Carlos, said: “This is the best thing that has ever happened to the business world of the municipality because it greatly improves everyone’s quality of life. We are handcrafting right now; all of our cuttings are done by hand. This machinery and donation are huge blessings and so important for our progress.”

Representing the ASOARTCOS Association at the ceremony, Manuel thanked TİKA and Türkiye and expressed his gratitude.
