TİKA Provided Basic Firefighting Training to Georgian Firefighters

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided Basic Firefighting Training in Georgia as part of the Emergency and Disaster Response Training Program (ADAMEP).

A total of 26 firefighters and rescue squad members from different parts of Georgia attended the “Basic Firefighting Training,” held by TİKA in cooperation with the Fire Department of Konya Metropolitan Municipality.

Theoretical and applied training was provided

During the 6-day training program, the participants were given theoretical training on fire response, search and rescue, response to traffic accidents, first aid, and occupational safety. After the theoretical training, an exercise was conducted under the supervision of expert instructors. Furthermore, the group of firefighters and rescue squad members who stayed in Georgia throughout the training made a technical field trip to the Georgian Emergency Management Agency, affiliated with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, and the Firefighting Service of Saburtalo in Tbilisi.

Certificates were presented at a ceremony

Certificates were presented to Georgian firefighters who successfully completed the theoretical training and exercise, at a ceremony held in Tbilisi. The certificate presentation ceremony was attended by Onur Sevim, Undersecretary of the Turkish Embassy in Tbilisi; Davit Sukhishvili, Head of the Fire and Rescue Department of the Georgian Emergency Management Agency; Tuba Özütok, TİKA’s Coordinator in Tbilisi; and Latif Erdoğan, Head of the Fire Department of Konya Metropolitan Municipality.

“Every firefighter is a hero”

Davit Sukhishvili, Head of the Fire and Rescue Department of the Georgian Emergency Management Agency, stated that every firefighter is a hero and that the topics they discussed during the training would be very useful for firefighters and make their honorable duty easier. Sukhishvili thanked TİKA and the Fire Department of Konya Metropolitan Municipality for the training, stating that the Georgian Emergency Management Agency, affiliated with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, hoped that their cooperation with TİKA would continue.

“More than 650 projects have been implemented in Georgia”

In his speech, Latif Erdoğan, Head of the Fire Department of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, congratulated all trainees for their progress and efforts during the challenging 6-day theoretical and applied training program. Tuba Özütok, TİKA’s Coordinator in Tbilisi, delivered a speech at the ceremony and noted that TİKA has implemented more than 650 projects in various industries such as agriculture, health, and education in Georgia since 1994 and attached great importance to projects aiming to improve the capacity of public institutions and increase the cooperation between the two countries.

Some other occupational groups will also be given theoretical and applied training as part of ADAMEP, which aims to improve the human resources capacity of partner countries to respond to disasters and emergencies.
