TİKA Lends Medical Assistance to South America's Largest City

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) has provided medical device assistance to Amparo Maternal Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

TİKA has supplied the hospital in Sao Paulo, the largest city in South America, with medical devices to be used during and post birth; 600 births take place per month at the hospital. Founded in 1939 by a group of charitable doctors, the hospital provides services to homeless individuals along with those in need. Although the hospital exerts great efforts to provide services to everyone in need, it faces difficulties in doing so due to insufficient public resources. The hospital, which accepts patients from all over Brazil, treats immigrants free-of-charge and offers them shelter and healthcare services they need in the pre and post birth stages.

TİKA has supplied the hospital with various medical devices, including anesthesia kits and incubators. The medical devices, which are used in saving the lives of tens of women and infants per day by enabling proper treatment, were submitted to authorities by the TİKA delegation. The submission ceremony was attended by Turkey's Consul General to Sao Paulo Serkan Gedik, the Head of TİKA's East and South Asia, Pacific, and Latin America Department Dr. Rahman Nurdun, Hospital Director Fernanda Allucci, Hospital Executive Director Ivan Rodriguez, Director of the Sao Paulo Municipality's Department of Social Development Aid Jose Castro, and hospital doctors.

Hospital Director Fernanda Allucci expressed that the fact that TİKA selected Amparo Maternal to provide assistance among several other hospitals was very meaningful for him and the locals. Stating that the devices, which were provided, were urgently needed, Head Physician Allucia extended her gratitude to the people of Turkey for lending assistance in order to enable the hospital to offer services under appropriate conditions.

During the ceremony, Consul General Gedik thanked everyone who contributed to the project. Gedik expressed that he was pleased to see the relations between the two countries gaining momentum, especially following TİKA's activities. The Head of TİKA's East and South Asia, Pacific, and Latin America Department Dr. Nurdun stated that TİKA had completed significant projects in Latin America and throughout the world.
