TİKA Implements Income Generating Projects for Palestinian Women

A “Traditional Palestinian Products Market” was established for women in the city of Hebron in Palestine with the support of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

Established by TİKA in the district of ad-Dhahiriya in Hebron, the “Traditional Palestinian Products Market” was put into service. The marketplace, which consists of Ottoman-era buildings in the Old Town, is the shopping center of ad-Dhahiriya.

Located 25 km southwest of Hebron, ad-Dhahiriya is a lively commercial district due to its proximity to settlements known as the '48 region, where Israeli citizens live. Approximately 40,000 people live in the city.

As part of the project, an Ottoman-era building with a usable area of approximately 150 sq. meters was renovated and designed as a store in the Old Town of ad-Dhahiriya.

Nearly 50 women and women’s associations benefit from the project. Materials such as raw materials and packaging materials were provided for one time only to women who will benefit from the project.

Beneficiaries started to sell the products they produce on the shelves allocated to them in the marketplace based on their production capacities.

The products produced by the beneficiaries of the project include crops, canned foods, baked goods, and handicrafts. Nearly 100 products produced entirely by women are offered for sale in the marketplace.

Nearly 50 women will be supported through the project initially. After a while, the marketplace will be available to all women who want to sell their products. The beneficiaries of this project consist of women between the ages of 20 and 60 who have no income or who have low income and are the breadwinners of their families.
