17 March 2021TİKA Implements a Rural Development and Greenhouse Production Project in North Macedonia
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided greenhouses, irrigation equipment, and seeds to 140 families in order to support rural development and increase employment in North Macedonia.
Agriculture is the main source of livelihood in Strumica in eastern North Macedonia. Greenhouse enterprises play a major role in reducing unemployment and preventing migration from rural areas, where a large number of Turkic people live, by increasing the production of quality food in these areas.
Supporting especially young couples in the region as part of its project, TİKA aims to prevent migration by contributing to employment and rural development. With the greenhouse equipment, drip irrigation system, and seeds provided to a total of 140 families, it is aimed to enable these families to grow high-yielding vegetables all year round.
In his speech at the distribution and delivery ceremony of the project, Marjan Janev, Mayor of Vasilevo, stated that the project contributed significantly to local people. Reminding the importance of the project once again, the Mayor thanked TİKA and the Republic of Turkey. Noting that they had been carrying out their activities in the region without discriminating between people based on their religion, language, or ethnicity, Halim Ömer Söğüt, TİKA’s Skopje Coordinator, stressed that they had always supported local people and Turkic groups through similar projects. In his speech at the ceremony, Hasan Mehmet Sekizkök, the Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Skopje, stated that the Government of Turkey would always be there for local people.
