04 November 2021TİKA Held Geographic Information Systems Training in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The first phase of the training program planned as part of the project “Geographic Information Systems Laboratory,” built by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) within the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Sarajevo, was held online in cooperation with the University of Sarajevo and Bursa Technical University.
The “Basic GIS Laboratory Training,” the first phase of the training program to be conducted at the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Laboratory, has been completed. The laboratory was built and put into service by TİKA a few months ago within the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Sarajevo to be used during the training courses to be held for students, academics, and employees in the forestry sector, as well as during the studies to be conducted for the management of forests, which cover nearly half the surface area of Bosnia and Herzegovina and have a significant share in the country’s economy, and for the preservation of soil and biological diversity.
A total of 15 people from the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Sarajevo and from the forestry sector participated in the 3-day online training program, which was conducted by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the University of Sarajevo, and Bursa Technical University and taught by Prof. Ali İhsan Kadıoğlulları, a member of the Faculty of Forestry at Bursa Technical University.
In the program, the participants were trained in processing the images captured by drones (UAVs), terrain modelling, and orthophoto mapping, as well as in various applications of GIS in forestry.
