TİKA Established Education Center for Martyrs’ Female Relatives in Libya

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) established a center where needlework courses and training activities will be organized for the benefit of martyrs’ female relatives.

TİKA, in cooperation with “Yes My Homeland Human Rights and Humanitarian Assistance Association”, established a center where needlework courses and training activities will be organized for the benefit of martyrs’ female relatives in Misrata, Libya.

Turkish Officials, Chairman of the State Supervisory Council of Libya, Muhammed eş-Şanti, Mayor of Misrata, Mahmud es-Skutri, and President of Misrata Red Crescent, Fethi Ebu Şeale attended the opening ceremony.

In his speech at the inauguration of the center, Consul General of Türkiye in Misrata, Gürkan Gürmeriçliler stated that non-governmental organizations are the most important institutions that keep the finger on the pulse of the society. Mentioning the importance of the established center, Gürmeriçliler said, “We take this good start as an opportunity.”

TİKA’s Coordinator in Libya, Gıyaseddin Karatepe said that hundreds of people from the city of Misrata died as martyrs during the civil war in Libya. Karatepe reported that they provided equipment support for the needlework course, multipurpose class, and kindergarten within the “Skillful hands education center” for martyrs’ female relatives.

Highlighting that this center will enable women from Misrata to contribute to the family budget, Karatepe emphasized that it is aimed at women acquiring professional skills and improving themselves as well as actively participating in social life.

TİKA provided the necessary equipment and various machines such as sewing and overlock machines and steam irons for the established needlework workshop, and tables, benches, furniture, office equipment, laptops, and playground equipment for the kindergarten in the center.
