09 December 2022TİKA Established a “Fish Farming Facility” in Niger
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) established a fish farming facility, which will benefit a total amount of 10 women cooperatives, in the Illela village within the Beidi town of Tahoua which is one of the most affected regions by terrorism in Niger.
According to United Nations (UN) data, Niger where about half of its population lives below the poverty line is one of the most affected regions by drought and terrorist incidents seen in the Western Sub-Saharan countries in recent years.
Several sectors, particularly agriculture and livestock, that build the economy of the country, and sector employees are affected by these extraordinary events.
The countryside of Tahoua, mentioned often by terrorist incidents especially in recent years, is supported through various development and humanitarian aids by the Niger government.
In cooperation with the Noor Foundation under the presidency of Khadija Bazoum, the wife of the President of Niger Mouhammed Bazoum, TİKA established a fish farming facility, which will benefit a total amount of 10 women cooperatives, in the Illela village within the Beidi town of Tahoua which is one of the most affected regions by terrorism.
The delivery ceremony of the facility was attended by TİKA, Noor Foundation, and women cooperatives’ representatives.
Speaking at the ceremony, the cooperative representative women thanked Türkiye and Turkish people in the presence of TİKA.
As a part of the project, 6 fish farming ponds, each of which is 10 cubic meters, and 1000 catfish were provided to the women cooperatives. A water well, water reservoir, and recirculation systems to fulfill the water need of the ponds were included in the project.
A fish feed production machine, raw materials, a fish drying oven, and other supplementary equipment to be used in the production chain were also provided to the cooperatives.
The project, which will benefit about 100 women producers and families, aims to encourage the terror-victim people of the region to produce, to increase women’s employment in the region, to generalize the modern and integrated animal-based production methods, and to contribute to the production in the country.
TİKA has also established modern fish farming facilities in Torodi, Saga, and Beidi regions before.
