TİKA Continues to Implement Agricultural Projects in Guinea

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) supported the production of 9 tonnes of rice on a land of 3 hectares owned by the Agricultural Research Center in Kindia, Guinea.

The Agricultural Research Center in Kindia is the only agricultural research center in Guinea and has been active since 1946. The center, where students from different cities engage in research activities and perform analyses, develops solutions to the problems faced by specialists and farmers. In order to strengthen the research and development activities of the center, TİKA provided the necessary equipment and materials for rice production on a land of 3 hectares, such as seeds, pesticides, sprayers, and simple agricultural tools, and supported the production activities at every stage, for instance, by clearing the land with tractors.

A total of 9 tonnes of rice was harvested from 3 hectares of land. Yaya Soumah, Head of the Agricultural Research Center in Kindia, stated that they offered the rice harvested for sale at €1.1 per kilogram. He added that TİKA did not only provide the Agricultural Research Center with assistance with rice production but also supported banana and papaya production on 5 hectares of land each in 2020.
