TİKA Continues to Contribute to the Friendly Relations between Turkey and Mexico

During his visit to Mexico, Dr. Naci Yorulmaz, TİKA’s Vice President, inaugurated the projects of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and had meetings for new opportunities for cooperation.

Support for Local Communities

The project implemented by TİKA included the construction of agricultural greenhouses, barns, and coops; the laying of 9 km of water pipes to supply water to houses; and the installation of solar panels to generate power in the region populated by the Chontal people.

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided technical equipment to broadcasters La Voz de la Sierra Oriente and La Voz de la Costa Chica, which are of great importance for the Chontal people to continue their broadcasting activities, diversify their broadcasts, and keep the values of the community alive. The equipment provided were delivered to the officials of radio broadcasting companies at a ceremony attended by Dr. Ümit Naci Yorulmaz, TİKA’s Vice President.

In his speech at the delivery ceremony, radio broadcaster Gerardo Sanchez Cayetano said, “As local communities, we speak many different languages. We want to keep these languages alive and preserve them for future generations. In this sense, the radio station is of great importance for the preservation and recording of cultural heritage.”

Equipping Vocational Training Units

TİKA equipped the carpentry workshops owned by ICAPET, a vocational training institution headquartered in Oaxaca, Mexico.

The Agency provided technical equipment to the carpentry workshops that are located in Oaxaca de Juárez, the capital of Oaxaca, and Nochixtlán; that are affiliated with ICAPET; which holds vocational training courses in various fields with the slogan “On-the-Job Training for the Job”; and that provide training to mostly women and young people.

The workshops equipped were opened at a ceremony attended by Dr. Ümit Naci Yorulmaz, TİKA’s Vice President. Yorulmaz noted that the geographical distance between the two countries would never constitute a barrier to the friendly relations and cooperation between them. He said, “As TİKA, we are glad that our country is a part of such an important project that will support the employment of women and young people.”

Support for Nursing Homes

Physiotherapy centers were built in nursing homes in the municipalities of Apan and Huichapan in the State of Hidalgo, Mexico.

As part of the project implemented by TİKA, the necessary equipment to treat the physiological disorders of adults over the age of sixty living in Apan and Huichapan and ensure that they are able to maintain their mobility healthily were delivered to gerontology centers.

In his speech, Omar Fayad Meneses, Governor of the State, said, “As seen in this exemplary project, distance is not a barrier to our solidarity. We know that Turkey is a good business partner for our country and state under any circumstances. The authorities and residents of Hidalgo are waiting with open arms to greet any Turkish person who will visit our state.” Then, he thanked the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish people.

A Mobile Clinic for Oaxaca State

TİKA provided and equipped a mobile clinic to serve communities with limited access to healthcare in Oaxaca State, Mexico.

Inspected by Dr. Ümit Naci Yorulmaz, TİKA’s Vice President, during his visit to Oaxaca State and delivered to Donato Augusto Casas Escamilla, General Director of the health institution Nacional Monte de Piedad, affiliated with the governorship, the mobile clinic was designed to solve the problems with access to healthcare in the settlements with a population of less than 2,500. The mobile clinic aims to offer health services in many small coastal districts surrounded by mountains in Oaxaca and provide the residents of these districts with access to basic health services.

TİKA Is Preparing to Exhibit the Historical and Cultural Heritage of Turkish People in Mexico

TİKA had meetings to build the Permanent Chamber of Turkey for the exhibition of the historical and cultural artifacts that represent Turkey at the National Museum of Cultures, where the artifacts from the cultures of different countries are exhibited, in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico.

Dr. Ümit Naci Yorulmaz, TİKA’s Vice President, and officials from TİKA’s Mexico Program Coordination Office had a meeting with Diego Prieto Hernández, General Director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) of the National Museum of Cultures; received a briefing about the organization and collection of the museum; and agreed on the framework of the partnership to be formed. Then, they visited the National Museum of Cultures of Mexico and had a meeting with Gloria Artis, the director of the museum.

Affiliated with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) of Mexico, the National Museum of Cultures (INAH) is a center of attraction both for Mexican people and for foreign tourists as archeological artifacts from Greece, Rome, Korea, China, Japan, and Israel are exhibited.
