TİKA Conducts an “Advanced Apiculture Research Training Program” in Pakistan

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) completed the “Advanced Apiculture Research Training Program,” which it had launched earlier this year, and provided 200 beehives and equipment to 100 beekeepers from 5 cities across the country.

Turkey shared its experience in beekeeping with specialists in the cities of Islamabad, Peshawar, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, and Kohat in Pakistan, and provided these specialists with 200 Turkish-type beehives and beekeeping equipment for their research activities.

An event was held at the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC), affiliated with the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, on the occasion of the completion of the program.

The event was attended by İhsan Mustafa Yurdakul, Turkey’s Ambassador to Islamabad; Gökhan Umut, TİKA’s Islamabad Coordinator; PARC officials, and invitees.

Ambassador Yurdakul reminded that TİKA and PARC have been supporting beekeepers through various activities in Pakistan in recent years, and stated that they have achieved great success so far.

Noting that TİKA’s project was very reasonable and productive, Yurdakul said that they directly supported beekeepers in Pakistan thanks to this project and were happy about it.

Ambassador Yurdakul also stated that even though 100 people were trained on beekeeping in 5 cities for now, this number would increase as these trainees start to train others. He added that thanks to this program, which was launched by TİKA, there would be thousands of trained beekeepers in the country in the coming years.

Yurdakul urged PARC officials to focus on olive tree planting and olive oil production, which would provide great benefits for Pakistan, in addition to beekeeping.

– TİKA’s project was listed as an exemplary project by the UN Office for South-South Cooperation

Gökhan Umut, TİKA’s Islamabad Coordinator, stated that they completed the “Advanced Apiculture Research Training Program,” which they had launched earlier this year, and provided 200 beehives and equipment to 100 beekeepers.

Umut noted that the training program was a continuation of the support they provided for beekeeping activities in Pakistan over the last 3 years. He added that the project was included on the list of Best Exemplary Projects of 2021 by the UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC).
