TİKA Built a Marketplace in Djibouti

Built by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and the Social Development Agency of Djibouti in the town of Mouloud in Dikhil, Djibouti, Mouloud Central Marketplace has been put into service.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mouna Osman Aden, Djibouti’s Minister of Social Affairs and Solidarity; Hamadou Mohamed Aramis, Djibouti’s Minister of Decentralization; Levent Salim Şahinkaya, the Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Djibouti; Kutluhan Yücel, TİKA’s Djibouti Program Coordinator; Mohamoud Robleh Dabar, Chairperson of the Development Committee of Mouloud; and the representatives of local authorities.

In their speeches, Hamadou Mohamed Aramis, Djibouti’s Minister of Decentralization, and Mouna Osman Aden, Djibouti’s Minister of Social Affairs and Solidarity, mentioned the social projects implemented by the Government of Djibouti in the region and thanked TİKA and Turkey for contributing to the development of Djibouti and supporting those in need.

Ambassador Şahinkaya noted that TİKA’s projects strengthened the close relations between Turkey and Djibouti, a sister and friendly country. Explaining TİKA’s international activities, Şahinkaya remarked that TİKA has implemented significant projects in Djibouti as well.

In his speech, Mohamoud Robleh Dabar, Chairperson of the Development Committee of Mouloud and the project partner, stated that TİKA completed the marketplace in a short time and that the project was one of the most effective and sustainable projects implemented in Dikhil. Noting that the marketplace would be a significant part of the infrastructure, contributing to Mouloud’s economy, Dabar thanked TİKA and Turkey for their support.

In his speech, Kutluhan Yücel, TİKA’s Djibouti Coordinator, provided information about the project and stressed that TİKA stands in solidarity with the people of Djibouti and those who work for the people, with the projects it implements. Yücel added that TİKA’s sustainable development projects in Djibouti would continue in 2021.

Mouloud Central Marketplace has a total area of 270 sq. meters and was built on a land of 350 sq. meters allocated in the city center for the project launched by TİKA upon the request of the Development Committee of Mouloud. 50 entrepreneurs will benefit from the marketplace, which was built by TİKA and the Social Development Agency of Djibouti, in the first phase of the project.

Aiming to ensure sustainable rural development by increasing production and developing the economy, the project will provide the basis for increasing the income of local people and combating poverty.
