TİKA Brings the Abundance of Ramadan to South America

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) distributed food parcels to those in need in the South American countries of Colombia, Uruguay, Guyana, and Suriname.

Food parcels were delivered to 1,200 families in four different cities in Colombia

Food parcels were delivered to 1,200 families in four different cities in Colombia. The food parcels prepared by TİKA were distributed to those in need in Barranquilla, Maicao, San Andrés Island, and Bogotá, the capital of Colombia.

The Ramadan events in Bogotá were held in coordination with the Abou Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque, the Santa Fe de Bogotá Islamic Center, and the Al-Qurtubi Center for Islamic Studies. Ali Özgün Öztürk, Head of the Department of Central Asia and Caucasus at TİKA, attended these events.

Ahmad Tayel, the legal representative of the Abou Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque, expressed his gratitude for the support provided, and said, “As the Islamic Charity Association of Bogotá and the Abou Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque, we are grateful to you for your support for our community.”

TİKA and the Santa Fe de Bogotá Islamic Center delivered food parcels and held iftar dinners for 300 people, including those in need and Muslim community members, in the Istanbul Mosque for a week. Carlos Sánchez, Head and Legal Representative of the Istanbul Mosque, delivered a speech and said, “I would like to thank you for your invaluable support this Ramadan.”

300 food parcels each were distributed in the Caribbean region, Barranquilla (Atlántico Department), Maicao (La Guajira Department), and San Andrés Island.

Food parcels were distributed to those in need in Uruguay

TİKA delivered 250 food parcels to Muslim families in Uruguay and to Uruguay Food Bank.

Hüseyin Müftüoğlu, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Montevideo, attended the delivery ceremony of the food aid to the Food Bank, and said, “I am very happy to be here as the Republic of Türkiye’s Ambassador. Ramadan is the month of compassion and cooperation. We are very happy to extend our helping hand to our friends in Uruguay in the last days of Ramadan. We would like to thank all local organizations for their assistance and support in reaching all our friends in Uruguay.”

Tamar Chaky, Director of the Islamic Cultural Organization of Uruguay, said, “This support is very important as it will benefit many people. May Allah bless you and accept all your good deeds. It is a blessing that this delivery was made during Ramadan.”

The rest of the food parcels were distributed to families in need in and around Montevideo by the staff and volunteers of the Islamic Cultural Organization of Uruguay.

Ramadan parcels were delivered to 200 families in Suriname

TİKA delivered 200 food parcels to people and families in need in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname, and surrounding provinces in cooperation with the Suriname Muslim Association (S.M.A).

Michel Soebhan, Representative of the Muslim Association, expressed his gratitude as follows: “I am honored to express my gratitude to TİKA for its support for the citizens of the Republic of Suriname who are in need and live in poverty, on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.”

Ramadan Program in Guyana

TİKA delivered food parcels to 200 families in need in cooperation with the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), a humanitarian aid organization established in Georgetown, the capital of Guyana.

In her speech at the delivery ceremony, Shameena Haniff, General Manager of CIOG, thanked TİKA, the Republic of Türkiye, and the people of Türkiye for the food aid they provided during Ramadan.

The parcels were distributed in Georgetown, on the West and East Coast of Berbice, on the Coast and Islands of Essequibo, on the West Bank of Demerara, on the West Coast of Demerara, and on the East Coast of Demerara.
