The Restoration Of The Home Where Aliya İzzet Begoviç Was Born Has Been Completed

The home in which Bosnia Herzegovina’s first President, the late Aliya İzzetbegoviç was born has been restored by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency Directorate.
When Moslem families began abandoning Belgrade towards the end of the Ottoman Empire, the late Aliya İzzetbegoviç’s family moved to Bosanli Samac in the northwestern part of the country in 1868 and settled here. The grandfather and father of the late Aliya İzzetbegoviç, who had the same name, used the 2 story home in Bosanski Samaç with local architecture for nearly 60 years before migrating to Saraybosna in 1928. The late Aliya İzzetbegoviç who was born in Bosanski Samac in 1925, spent the early part of his childhood in this house with his grandfather, his grandmother who was a Turk from Üsküdar met by his grandfather during his military service in Istanbul and other family members.

The restoration of this house, which had not been used for many years and faced serious deterioration, was started by TİKA this past April and was completed in October of 2013. The project supported by the late Aliya İzzetbegoviç’s son and Bosnia Herzegovina Tri-Country Directorate Council Bosnian member Bakir İzzetbegoviç and for which the architectural consultation was provided by Prof. Dr. Şahziya Dreca and the aesthetic and concept design consultation was provided by Prof. Dr. Kazim Hacimeyliç, was completed only a short time ago.

The home which will serve as the Aliya İzzetbegoviç Memorial Home will also be used as the regional headquarters of Bosnia Herzegovina’s humanitarian aid association “Merhamet”. The memorial home will be a museum containing a display of the late Aliya İzzetbegoviç’s nostalgic belongings and will also host cultural activities.
