The Project To Develop Education For The Visually Impaired In Kazakstan Has Been Completed

The Project to Develop Education for the Visually Impaired in Kazakhstan started by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency Directorate in 2012 has been completed.
The project which was carried out in the Semey no 3 School for the Visually Impaired chosen as the pilot school within the scope of the Project to Develop Education for the Visually Impaired in Kazakhstan, was comprised of two stages which are education and equipment support. In the first stage of the project a working visit was organized for 3 administrators from the Semey No.3 School for the Vision Impaired, to Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir last year during which the areas of cooperation were determined. Also in Ankara, 15 teachers were provided with an educational program through the cooperation of the Ankara Gazi University and the Ministry of Education. Finally 3 instructors were assigned to Kazakhstan from the Ministry of Education to organize a week long seminar after which 50 Kazakh teachers were given certificates.

This year, as the second stage of the project, two machines which enable printed and electronic text which is not written in Braille to be transformed into a Braille alphabet and one computer was provided to the school authorities.

In the statement made by the Semey No.3 School for the Visually Impaired Principal Akram Kaligojin, it was said that the training and equipment that had been provided raised the quality of education at the school and served as an example for all the other schools for the visually impaired in Kazakhstan and a special thanks was expressed to TİKA. The Semey No.3 School for the Visually Impaired continues to provide education to 170 students who are blind or visually impaired.
