The Karaite Turks and Tatars are at the “Erenler Sofrası” in Lithuania

As part of the Erenler Sofrası Ramadan Program, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided food aid for the needy people in Lithuania.

The food packages, which were procured by TİKA within the scope of the “Erenler Sofrası” program, were delivered by Gökhan Turan, Ambassador of Turkey in Vilnius, to Mufti Aleksandras Beganskas, President of the Council of Lithuanian Muslims Religious Communities. The food packages were distributed to the Karaite and Tatar families in cooperation with Mufti Beganskas and the Turkish Embassy in Vilnius.

Approximately 1,000 families benefited from the Erenler Sofrası program in the regions of Alytus, Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Palanga, Visaginas, Trakai, and Nemezis. Also, healthcare professionals benefited from the Erenler Sofrası which was set in the Vilnius Hospital of Oncology.

As part of the distribution programs, which were held in 8 regions of Lithuania, the homes of the elderly and needy families were visited to deliver the Ramadan packages by hand. Within the scope of the program, the Karaite Turks, who have been living in Lithuania since the 14th century, were included in the program and Turkey provided support for the Karaite Turks for the second time. The families who received the food packages expressed their gratitude towards Turkey and TİKA for their support.

Erenler Sofrası set for healthcare professionals

A meal was organized for the healthcare professionals of Lithunia, who have been going through difficult days due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in the Vilnius Hospital of Oncology. A total of 770 healthcare professionals, 120 of which working in the intensive care unit, were given hot meal in the hospital as part of the Erenler Sofrası program. The event was attended by representatives from the Turkish Embassy in Vilnius, the hospital officials and the Mufti Beganskas. The closing ceremony in Vilnius made a tremendous impact on the written and visual press of Lithuania.
