The Gymnasium In The City Of Konjic First Elementary School In Bosnia Herzegovina Has Been Renovated

The renovation of the old worn out gymnasium in Bosnia Herzegovina’s city of Konjic First Elementary School was completed by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency Directorate. 

The comprehensive renovation work on the Konjic First Elementary School which included changing the old and worn out doors and windows of the gymnasium, fixing the floor, painting and repairing the lighting and heating systems, was done by TİKA. The Konjic First Elementary School, which is one of Bosnia Herzegovina’s most prominent schools, provides education with a Bosnian and Serbian curriculum. Also a rehabilitation section is located in the Konjic First Elementary School, where there are Turkish courses and students are provided with a quality education.

The gymnasium renovated by TİKA at the Konjic First Elementary School was opened with a ceremony. Turkish Ambassador to Saraybosna Ahmet Yıldız, TİKA Chairman of the Balkans and Eastern Europe Region Ali Maskan, TİKA authorities, advisors serving the Bosnia Herzegovina Turkish mission, the Saraybosna Yunus Emre Institute authorities, Konjic Mayor Emir Bubalo, the Hersek Neretva Kantonu Ministry of Education representative, school administrators, students, teachers and parents participated in the ceremony.

The students drew attention by greeting guests with the flags of Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina before the ceremony and students taking an elective Turkish class gave presentations in Bosnian and Turkish. Turkish songs and chants were performed by the students. Turkish Saraybosna Ambassador Yıldız, who spoke at the ceremony, said that the projects and activities conducted by TİKA are now known by all of the Bosnia Herzegovinian people. Turkish Saraybosna Ambassador Yıldız said that Turkey always stands by Bosnia Herzegovina and that this support would never lessen.

TİKA Chairman of the Balkans and Eastern Europe Region Ali Maskan said he was sure that the project would contribute positively to the education and teaching in the school and added that they would continue to stand by the people of Bosnia Herzegovina with this type of support. TİKA Chairman of the Balkans and Eastern Europe Region Ali Maskan also said that it was pleasing to see Turkish education being provided in the school and the interest in a common culture. Konjic Mayor Emir Bubalo pointed out that TİKA has been with the citizens of Konjic for a number of years with the restoration of the historical Konjic Bridge in the center of the city, the renovation of the Kanton Hospital and the fisheries project in the Boraçko Lake and thanked Turkey and TİKA for their assistance.
