The Digital Fabrication Laboratory Built by TİKA in Lebanon Was Put into Service

The JAZARI LAB, a design and fabrication laboratory built by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) within the Sidon Faculty of Technology at the Lebanese University, has been inaugurated.

The project, which was developed by TİKA and implemented successfully in different countries, brings together classical production methods and new technologies, enabling especially university students, researchers, and academics to carry out prototype design and production activities and R&D studies in Lebanon.

Various types of 3D printers and scanners, laser cutting machines, CNC routers, desktop lathes, bench drills, computers, digital microscopes, robotic training sets, and various mechanical-electronic equipment are available in the laboratory, which was named after Ismail al-Jazari, an inventor who lived in the Artuqid State, known as the first Turkish state in Anatolia, and has been regarded as the “Father of Robotics.”

After the construction of the laboratory, all the equipment of which was brought from Turkey, experts assigned by TİKA taught 2-week training courses for the students and academic staff of the Faculty on the said devices, the relevant software, 3D design and printing, and robotics programming.

The laboratory, which is the second of its kind in Lebanon and the first of its kind in state faculties, provides research and development opportunities in various fields, including architecture, automotive, medicine, and arts, to the students and academic staff of the departments of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechatronics in the Sidon Faculty of Technology, as well as those interested in other universities, technical high schools, institutes, and organizations in the country.

The inauguration ceremony of the laboratory was attended by Ali Barış Ulusoy, the Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Beirut; Bahia Hariri, MP and Head of the Parliamentary Commission for Education and Culture in the Lebanese Parliament; Fouad Ayoub, President of the Lebanese University; Mohammad Seoudi, Mayor of Sidon; Mohamed Saleh, President of the Chamber of Commerce of South Lebanon; academics; and students.

At the ceremony, certificates were presented to the academics and students who attended the training.
