The Autism Vocational Training Center Was Opened in Mexico with TİKA’s Support

The Autism Vocational Training Center was opened following the completion of the works carried out by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency and Guadalajara Municipality.

The Autism Vocational Training Center was constructed in Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco, the third most populated state in Mexico, with TİKA’s support and opened with a ceremony held on October 5, 2022.

As part of the project, TİKA provided materials and equipment for computer, textile, gardening, traditional piñata making, cleaning, and pastry workshops, which will serve at least 1000 people every month.

The opening ceremony held for the project was attended by İlhan Kemal Tuğ, the Republic of Türkiye’s Ambassador to Mexico; Fatih Abdi Çetin, TİKA’s Coordinator in Mexico; Maye Villa Lemus, President of the Integral Family Development Institution (DIF) of Guadalajara; and Pablo Lemus Navarro, Mayor of Guadalajara.

TİKA has been active in Mexico since 2011

İlhan Kemal Tuğ, the Republic of Türkiye’s Ambassador to Mexico, delivered a speech at the ceremony and noted that the two countries, which are global brands in political, economic, cultural, historical, and social terms, have good relations and that TİKA has been active in various areas of development and cooperation in Mexico since 2011.

Pablo Lemus Navarro, Mayor of Guadalajara, stressed that there is a strong cooperation between Guadalajara Municipality and TİKA.

Navarro stated that the Autism Vocational Training Center would not only serve the residents of Guadalajara, as it was built with a metropolitan vision. He also expressed their hope that Guadalajara and a city from Türkiye would be declared sister cities, in order to strengthen their good relations with Türkiye.

Jalisco was recorded to have the largest population with disabilities in 2020, with 386,577 people aged 0 to 44. Vocational training courses will be held at the Autism Vocational Training Center for individuals with autism aged 15 to 45.
