The Activities Which Will Be Conducted In Latin America Were Announced At The House Of Representatives Meeting Held In Washington

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency Directorate’s assistance project aimed at farmers in the Latin American countries of Peru, Bolivia and Guatemala was announced during the activity organized at the House of Representatives in Washington.

The activity organized at the Longworth offices of the House of Representatives and hosted by Turkish Ambassador to Washington Namık Tan and TİKA Assistant Chairman Harun Tuncer, was attended by US Congress members Jim Moran, Virginia Foxx and Ed Whitfield, as well as various ambassadors.

The Turkish Ambassador to Washington, Tan thanked TİKA for the support they have provided to small scale coffee farmers in the Latin American countries of Peru, Bolivia and Guatemala and pointed out that non-governmental organizations, the Turkish American Coalition and the International Development Strategies had undertaken an important role in determining the correct beneficiaries of the project. The Turkish Ambassador to Washington, Tan also provided information about TİKA explaining that the organization is one of the leading development agencies in the world and that it has reached a large number of locations from the Middle East and the Balkans to Africa since its establishment.

Washington’s Turkish Ambassador Tan pointed out that TİKA currently has over ten offices in the Middle East and Africa and that America is a new region for the organization. Tan added he was also pleased that the announcement of such meaningful assistance during the Hispanic Heritage Month. Washington’s Turkish Ambassador Tan said “I believe that this donation will also help to establish new bridges between Turkey and the Hispanic Community in the U.S.”. In his speech, TİKA Assistant Chairman Harun Tuncer reminded everyone of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s words “We will reach every place in the world. Wherever there is someone suffering Turkey will always be there”. Tuncer explained that TİKA is working on five continents with this vision, now including Latin America, and has 32 offices and ongoing projects in over 120 countries.

Within the scope of the project agricultural equipment and technical assistance will be provided to farmers in Peru, Bolivia and Guatemala which are some of the poorest countries in Latin America, where the majority of the population is comprised of Native Americans. In this context, 5 thousand men and women coffee workers in Guatemala will be supplied with pulverizers and coffee separators, 450 women dairy farmers in Peru will be supplied with feed mills, veterinary kits and technical training and 625 men and women quinoa planter farmers in Bolivia will be supplied with a harvesting machine and haystack machine.
