The “13th International World Language Turkish Symposium” Was Held in Rize

In cooperation with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Recep Tayyip Erdogan University, the “13th International World Language Turkish Symposium” was held on October 14-16 2021 in Rize.

Hosted by Recep Tayyip Erdogan University with the support of TİKA, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the National Anthem and the 700th anniversary of Yunus Emre's death, "13th International World Language Turkish Symposium” was held on October 14-16 2021 in Rize.

The "International World Language Turkish Symposium", hosted by a different university every year, was held this year at Recep Tayyip Erdogan University, named after the President. Nearly 200 scientists, including academicians, Turcologists and literators from neighboring geographies, attended the symposium for three days. In the symposium, which discussed all aspects of Turkish language, 12 sessions were held together with the opening and closing session, and a total of 197 papers were presented.

In the papers in the symposium, structural features and comparisons of the Turkish language in Anatolia and its neighboring geographies, the position of Turkish in the world, its development, its past, present and future, the works of famous Turkish poets, mystics and writers, the richness of discourse of the Turkish language and Turkish language teaching were discussed.

The opening of the program, which was held at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University in Rize, was organized at the Congress and Cultural Center Conference Hall. Starting his opening speech by greeting the participants, University Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Karaman said: “The year 2021 is special as it marks the 700th anniversary of the death of Yunus Emre, one of the outstanding figures of the Turkish language and civilization, and the 100th anniversary of the adoption of our National Anthem, the symbol of our independence, in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. For this reason, 2021 has been declared as the Year of Yunus Emre and Turkish Language by our Presidency. I am happy to be holding the 13th International World Language Turkish Symposium on the 15th anniversary of the establishment of our University, named after our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in such an important and special year. In addition, I would like to state that we are delighted to host you, our distinguished scientists who are experts in their fields, working in Turkish and working at different universities in our country, and our esteemed guests who accepted our invitation and participated in the symposium at our university.”

In addition to TİKA, this international symposium was supported by institutions such as UNESCO, Atatürk High Council of Culture, Language and History, Turkish Language Association, YTB, Yunus Emre Institute, and TÜRKSOY.
