Support from TİKA for the World Prematurity Day Aid Campaign

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency provided 40 newborn hospital bassinets for the Aid Campaign started in Tanzania for World Prematurity Day on 17 November.

40 newborn hospital bassinets were provided by our Agency for the 17 November World Prematurity Day Aid Campaign conducted under the auspices of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Tanzania and Doris Mollel Foundation.

In today’s world where 1 out of every 10 babies are born premature, the hospital bassinets provided as a part of the aid campaign organized to draw attention to the prematurity-related issues and to raise awareness were delivered to the officials with a ceremony held in Serengeti.

Ambassador of Türkiye to Tanzania, Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu, Deputy Interior Minister, Jumanne Sagini, Deputy Tourism Minister, Mary F. Masanja, Deputy Health Minister, Dr. Godwin Mollel, and many state officials attended the delivery ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador of Türkiye to Tanzania, Dr. Güllüoğlu drew attention to the importance of maternal and child health in terms of the future of countries and expressed their appreciation towards TİKA’s support for this significant campaign.

Ambassador Güllüoğlu noted that TİKA has carried out around 250 projects and activities in various fields such as production, agriculture, livestock, strengthening of social and administrative structures, employment, access to clean water, and particularly education and health.

The equipment provided as a part of the campaign will be used in the newborn units of four different public hospitals (Kwimba District Hospital, Serengeti District Hospital, Magu District Hospital, Ukerewe District Hospital) in Lake Zone which has the highest rate of premature birth cases and infant mortality across the country.
