Solid Waste and Urban Planning Training in Chad

In collaboration with Chad Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Regional Planning and N'Djamena Metropolitan Municipality, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) organized a training program on Urban Planning and Solid Waste Management.

Implementing many projects in Chad to improve healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure and rural development, TİKA completed yet another project to enhance the cooperation between the two countries. 83 employees from Chad Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Regional Planning and N'Djamena Metropolitan Municipality were given a week-long training on solid waste management and urban planning. The participants were trained on subjects such as project planning and project management as well as on capacity improvement, engineering and planning depending on their departments and specialties. 4 experts from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality shared theoretical and practical information with the participants and they helped improve their level of knowledge and experience.

The certificate ceremony was attended by R.T. N’Djamena Ambassador Erdal Sabri Ergen, Undersecretary of Chad Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Regional Planning Mahammat Nguemba, TİKA Central Asia and Caucasia Director Dr. Ali Özgün Öztürk, N’Djamena Metropolitan Municipality 1st Deputy Mayor Attidjani Mahamat Nouren, Turkish Parliamentary Friendship Group MPs Mansura Hamid Nuri and Muhammed Salih.  

R.T. N’Djamena Ambassador Ergen highlighted that TİKA continues to invest in all aspects of life in Chad and especially stressed the value of the investments made in people. The Undersecretary of Chad Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Regional Planning Nguemba said, “We are very happy that we have increased the capacity of our personnel through this training. We hope that such programs will continue in the future.” TİKA Central Asia and Caucasia Director Dr. Ali Özgün Öztürk added, “As you know, for economic and administrative development of a country, physical capital investments are not sufficient on their own. Human capital investments are essential for the creation of sustainable human resources. With an awareness of this issue, our organization also emphasizes human capital investments without neglecting physical capital investments.”

The final speaker, N’Djamena Metropolitan Municipality 1st Deputy Mayor Nouren expressed that they implemented many projects with TİKA and that they hope to continue with new ones. He stated that Istanbul and N’djamena are sister cities since 2014 and they would be very happy to be cooperating with a global city like Istanbul on any issue. The certificate ceremony was concluded with the distribution of participation certificates and a family photo.
