Small Livestock Support And Equipment Was Provided To Gambia

In Gambia, one of West Africa’s smallest countries from both a geographical and demographic aspect, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency Directorate carried out a project to help gain a vocation in cooperation with the Organization to Support qualitative Transformation and Development in Social and Economic Life and the Association for the Progress of Women and Child Care. The small livestock and equipment provided within the scope of the program were distributed among the participants.

Small scale producers in the agriculture, livestock and fisheries sectors of Gambia as well as women producers in rural areas were targeted in this project conducted by TİKA. The small livestock and equipment provided within the scope of the program were distributed in a ceremony organized for the occasion attended by Turkey’s ambassador to Banjul Ali Rıza Özcoşkun, TİKA officials and a large number of citizens.

In Soma 100 families were given 4 female and 1 male livestock each for a total of 500 animals within the scope of the project. It is planned that the supplied livestock will help develop livestock farming in the area and add value to the economy as well as contribute to securing food in the country.

The 22 grain production machines distributed in the city of Birikama will increase the physical capacity of small farmers in the area by empowering producers from an economic standpoint and supporting the agricultural activities in the region. Also 25 women producers were provided with refrigerators in Birikama so that they can produce and sell ice and fruit juice, in an effort to integrate the women in the city with economic life. By providing the refrigerators for the area women to carry out production in their homes, the goal is to increase their economic role in the community. Also 7 fishing net sets were provided to the producers who were given fishing boats last year by TİKA.

The project aims to improve the level of income earned by these families, empower the region economically and socially with the increased welfare level and create a sustainable and productive economic life in the region.
