18 November 2021Serkan Kayalar, TİKA’s President, Examined TİKA’s Projects in the TRNC
During his visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the establishment of the TRNC, Serkan Kayalar, President of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), examined TİKA’s projects in the TRNC on site together with the accompanying delegation.
Serkan Kayalar, TİKA’s President, first examined the hiking trail paved by TİKA on the Kyrenia Mountains and received a briefing from officials about the activities carried out as part of the project.
3 existing hiking trails on the Kyrenia Mountains were prepared for ecotourism, and a new hiking trail was paved in order to promote alternative tourist attractions in the TRNC, a tourism island, especially during the pandemic. Thus, the interest of domestic and foreign tourists increased, paving the way for the TRNC to become a center of attraction for alternative tourism and ecotourism. Furthermore, the first forest library in the country was built, and viewing platforms and photography spots were created as part of the project.
TİKA’s President Kayalar also visited the Museum of Barbarism in Nicosia, restored by TİKA, together with the accompanying delegation and received a briefing about the ongoing restoration activities. The house, which was the epicenter of the Bloody Christmas attacks launched against the Turkish Cypriots in 1963, was converted into a museum right after the Peace Operation in 1974.
