Serdar Çam, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Inaugurated TİKA’s Projects in Sarajevo

Visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina to attend the memorial and funeral ceremony held on the occasion of the 26^th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide, Serdar Çam, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, inaugurated the library of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Sarajevo and the production workshop of Bascarsija Society of Culture and Arts in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, after the equipment projects of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serdar Çam, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, inaugurated the Library of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Sarajevo, which was renovated and equipped by TİKA. The renovated library will offer a modern academic education and research environment in the Faculty of Architecture.

During his visit to Sarajevo, Çam also inaugurated the Production Workshop of Bascarsija Society of Culture and Arts, which was renovated and equipped by TİKA. Founded in 1947, the society aims to preserve the cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina. As part of the project, the capacity of the production workshop has been increased in order to ensure the preservation of the rich traditional clothing collection under suitable conditions and the manufacturing of new products.

Speaking to an AA reporter about the genocide of more than 8,372 Bosniak civilians by Serbian forces in Srebrenica, located in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, in July 1995, Çam said, “Facts cannot be concealed in any way. The pain is evident. The suffering of thousands of people is evident.”

Stating that the events in Srebrenica will never be forgotten, Çam added, “The purpose of these memorial ceremonies is to help people learn from these events. There have been many other tragic events in recent years, both in the Middle East and in many other parts of the world.”

Çam pointed out that all states should strive to achieve world peace, and said, “Countries in this region should join forces to improve friendly relations and cooperation and live in harmony without forgetting our suffering.”

Noting that the first phase of the restoration of the gallery in Srebrenica was completed by TİKA and that the gallery would be inaugurated on the next day, Çam continued, “We also visited the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) and exchanged ideas about various activities. As Turkey, we will continue to support the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is a friendly nation, within our means.”

Namir Comaga, Board Member of Bascarsija Society of Culture and Arts, which manufactures traditional clothing in Bosnia and Herzegovina, noted that they secured clothing production for the next 50 years thanks to TİKA.

During his visit to Sarajevo, Serdar Çam, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, also visited TİKA’s Sarajevo Office and received a briefing about TİKA’s projects and activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
