Ramadan Aid from TİKA to the Muslim Maya Tribe in Mexico

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided the Tzotzils, the Maya tribe living in San Cristóbal de las Casas in Chiapas, one of the poorest states in Mexico, and in the mountains around the same city with food parcels on the occasion of Ramadan.

Maya Tzotzil Muslims, one of the Maya people, were provided with food parcels in Cristóbal de las Casas within the framework of the program. The leaders of the indigenous people who participated in the program thanked TİKA and Türkiye, and said that the Muslim people are very pleased with the aids. They underlined that it is very meaningful that Türkiye, which is situated thousands of kilometres away, has reached out to them. They added that the local people are eager to foster the relations with Türkiye.

Following the program, the Jechtoch and Zinacantan people, who are from Tzotzil tribes living in the mountains surrounding San Cristóbal de las Casas, were provided with food parcels.

A total of 90 families were given food parcels, and 35 families were given Ramadan parcels for children within the program. Thus, TİKA has provided 200 families in Mexico with food aid and 100 children with stationery aid in the Ramadan.

During the Ramadan this year, TİKA is going to offer food parcels in Guatemala and Costa Rica, and organize an iftar dinner for the Muslim minority and poor families in Havana, Cuba.
