Our President Has Inaugurated TİKA Projects in Moldova

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who was in Moldova for an official visit, inaugurated TİKA projects in the capital city Chisinau and in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. 

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) has completed more than 400 projects and activities in over 25 years in Moldova on healthcare, education, and improvement of administrative and civil infrastructures. TİKA built a hospital and a preschool in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia and renovated the Presidential Palace in the capital city Chisinau. Our President inaugurated the Moldovan Presidential Palace, which was thoroughly renovated and then furnished and equipped by TİKA. In the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, at Comrat Regional Hospital, he opened Aziz Sancar Diagnostic and Treatment Center that was built and supplied with medical equipment by TİKA.

During his time in the Moldovan capital Chisinau, President Erdoğan got together with Moldovan President Mr. Igor Dodon in the Presidential Palace that was renovated by TİKA. Dodon briefed President Erdoğan about the building. Later on, President Erdoğan and Moldovan President Igor Dodon held an interdelegational meeting, which was also attended by TİKA President Serdar Çam.

Following the meeting, the President held a joint press conference with Moldovan President Dodon. In his speech, Dodon remarked, “Turkey has helped Moldova through TİKA projects. I would like to thank President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan especially for the renovation of the Presidential Palace.” President Erdoğan said, “TİKA has made significant investments across Moldova over the last 24 years. I want to point out that the aids will be delivered to those in need without discrimination. Turkey will stand by Moldova as it has done in the past.”

After the meetings, President Erdoğan and his counterpart attended the ceremony for the inauguration of the monument erected in front of the palace as a tribute to TİKA’s activities and for the commissioning of the structure. During his speech here, President Erdoğan said, “This project will be a shining star of the friendship between Turkey and Moldova. This project is a symbol of Turkish people’s fondness of the Moldovan people.”

Moldovan Presidential Palace was damaged in 2009 during Mass Demonstrations

The efforts to renovate Moldovan Presidential Palace, which was damaged during the mass demonstrations in 2009, started upon the instructions of President Erdoğan, with the goals of improving its physical infrastructure and elevating its conditions in line with the modern standards. The project covered an area of approximately 15,000 sq. meters and infrastructure and repair work was undertaken in the 13-story Block A, where the Presidential office and protocol rooms are located and in the Blocks B and C, which house the support units. The heating, cooling, fire-fighting, data, and electric, etc. systems of the buildings were completely renewed. In terms of interior architecture, natural flooring, handrails, and suspended ceilings were renewed and paint works were carried out. In terms of exterior architecture, facade repairs and arrangements on the building surroundings, pool, and landscaping were completed. Furthermore, office furniture to be used across the building were procured and the building’s security system was modernized.

The Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Education Campus

On the second day of his trip to Moldova, President Erdoğan visited Comrat, the capital city of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, with Moldovan President Dodon. The President was welcomed by the Governor of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, Mrs. Irina Vlah.

President Erdoğan attended a trilateral meeting with Moldovan President Dodon and Governor Vlah in the office of the Executive Committee of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. The meeting was also accompanied by a delegation including TİKA President Serdar Çam. After the meeting, President Erdoğan examined the model for the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Education Campus that will be built in Gagauzia and he was informed on the campus by TİKA President Serdar Çam.

During the joint press conference, the President said, “Especially through TİKA and through our municipalities, official institutions, and non-governmental organizations, we are implementing many projects in Moldova. We consider these projects to be the symbols of our friendship, shared past and common future.” Irina Vlah stated that TİKA has built a hospital and a preschool in the region and carried out water, infrastructure and renewal projects, and remarked, “Our region will develop thanks to TİKA’s help.”

The project design phase of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Education Campus, which is planned to be built in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia’s capital Comrat, on a site that was allocated in April 2017, has been completed. The project, which is about to move on to the implementation phase, aims to establish an exemplary educational institution in the region to help young people have an access to education under modern and high-quality conditions for years to come through education, housing, and sports facilities that will be built.

The campus, which is projected to serve 500 students will feature 1 educational building, 2 dormitories, 1 indoor gym with a capacity of 452 people, 5 outdoor arenas, namely, 1 football field, 1 volleyball, 1 tennis, and 2 basketball courts, a 270 people capacity conference hall and a 352 people capacity dining hall. 

Comrat Aziz Sancar Diagnostic and Treatment Center was Inaugurated by Our President

Together with Moldovan President Dodon and the Gagauzian Governor Vlah, President Erdoğan inaugurated Aziz Sancar Diagnostic and Treatment Center within Comrat Regional Hospital, which was built and supplied with medical equipment by TİKA. During his speech here, President Erdoğan said, “I greet you with the best wishes of 81 million Turkish citizens, your relatives. I hope that this hospital will serve you well. This will make the jobs of our doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals so much easier.” The President visited the intensive care, tomography, and roentgen units at Aziz Sancar Diagnostic and Treatment Center and was debriefed by the hospital officials.

The Diagnostic and Treatment Center was built by TİKA within the campus of the existing regional hospital in Comrat, in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, in order to establish a new healthcare facility for Eastern Europe and especially for Gagauzia and Moldova, and to enable access to better health services for the public.

Built as a two-story facility with a capacity of 56 beds, the Center consists of 2,700 sq. meters of indoor area and 6,800 sq. meters of total area. Equipped with modern medical devices, the Center also plans to offer services in internal medicine, pediatrics, radiology, tomography, and ultrasound in addition to basic clinic and health services. The Center is expected to be a significant addition to the healthcare sector in Eastern Europe and is projected to serve approximately 40,000 people annually. It was named after Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar upon the proposal of TİKA.
