Online Training for Diabetes Nursing in Georgia from TİKA

With the support of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Georgia's Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Abkhazia organized an online “Training for Diabetes Nursing” for Abkhazian immigrant medical personnel.

Within the scope of the training, a total of 12 topics such as; the diagnosis and classification of diabetes, the risks of diabetes, prevention of and precautions of diabetes, nutrition therapy in diabetes, exercise therapy in diabetes were explained to 18 nurses by the academicians of Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University.

Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia Tamaz Huboa, Deputy Minister of Finance of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia Giorgi Cincharadze, TİKA’s Education Projects Coordinator Mustafa Haşim Polat, and TİKA’s Tbilisi Coordinator Necla Demirdağ attended the opening of the two-day training program.

Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia Tamaz Hubua thanked TİKA in his speech at the opening of the program, stating that the training program is an important opportunity for the medical personnel working in difficult conditions in the country.

TİKA’s Education Projects Coordinator Mustafa Haşim Polat said in his statement that TİKA carries out training projects in many areas, from health education to media training, from search and rescue training to diplomacy training. Polat stressed that if the pandemic conditions allow, they want to organize advanced practical training in hospitals in Georgia.

Minister of Finance and Economy of Georgia's Abkhazian Autonomous Republic Ivane Dolidze, TİKA’s Tbilisi Coordinator Necla Demirdağ, officials and other guests attended the certificate ceremony held after the training process in Tbilisi.

In his speech, Dolidze conveyed his thanks to TİKA for organizing the training program on the care of diabetes patients, who are considered to be a high-risk group during the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and shared information about the ongoing projects implemented by TİKA for Abkhazian immigrants.

Demirdağ also expressed his pleasure to attend the ceremony and informed the participants about the educational opportunities that TİKA can offer in the field of health. Demirdağ stated that they can organize a training program including practical exercises in Turkey in the future for successful, highly qualified, and self-improving medical personnel who participate in training for diabetes nursing and thanked the institutions of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia for their educational support.

As part of the Public Health Education Program (HASEP) developed by TİKA, it is aimed that the training provided to increase the capacity of health workers will be continued in other countries in the upcoming periods.
