July 15th Democracy Park Opened in Serbia

July 15^th Democracy Park has been opened with the support of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) in the village of Biljača in Bujanovac, Serbia, where Turkish people live.

The village of Biljača, which has 600 houses, is the only village in Serbia where Turks live in groups. July 15^th Democracy Park has been opened in Biljača in the memory of our martyries with the support of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Bujanovac Municipality. Turks from Konya and Karaman had settled in Biljača from 1250 to 1350. Because of the mass migrations between 1955 and 1960, the village is no longer a place where Turks live in majority, but the remaining 30 Turkish families of the village live peacefully with their Serbian and Albanian neighbours.  

“A Special Day for the Children of the Village”

Nagip Arifi, the Mayor of Buyanovac gave a speech at the opening ceremony and said it is a special day for the citizens of the village, including the children. He thanked TİKA and Türkiye for their efforts to improve the living conditions of the people in the region. Hami Aksoy, the Ambassador of Türkiye in Belgrade, stated that Serbia was in solidarity with Türkiye during the July 15^th process, and he thanked the Serbian government for its support to our fight against FETO.

The park was opened following the folk-dance performance, and the children enjoyed themselves in the park.
