Iftar Dinner from TİKA for the Orphans in Somalia

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) organized an iftar dinner for 200 orphan girls residing in İmam-I Şafi Children’s Home under Al Harameyn Foundation as part of its April 23rd, National Sovereignty and Children’s Day celebrations in Somalia.  

The iftar dinner was hosted by the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu. Turkish missions in Somalia as well as the Somalian Minister of National Defence Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur Jama, Somalian President of Communication, Abdirashıd Mohamed Hashi and authorities from the Mogadishu Municipality participated in the program.

Mehmet Yılmaz, the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye in Mogadishu, delivered a speech in the ceremony and celebrated April 23rd, National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. Yılmaz highlighted the importance of independence for a country and its people and thanked TİKA for the iftar offered to Somalian orphans on such a meaningful and important day.  

Underlining that April 23rd Children’s Day is the first and only children’s bairam presented to the children of the world, Yılmaz said, “On this occasion, I commemorate the founder of our republic, Ghazi M. Kemal Atatürk as well as our martyries and war veterans, to whom we owe our freedom. I also celebrate the 102nd anniversary of our Grand National Assembly, the representative of our sovereignty and national will, which coordinated the War of Independence and stood against the occupiers and coup plotters.”  

Nur Jama, the Somalian Minister of Defence gave a speech in Turkish and said, “I commemorate the 102nd anniversary of Turkish Grand National Assembly, our  brother assembly and celebrate April 23rd, National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, which is a special day presented by Atatürk to all the children in the world.” Jama also thanked TİKA for siding with Somalian orphans on such an important day and making them happy.  

TİKA made Somalian children happy on the World Orphans’ Day

In Somalia, the number of orphans is quite high due to instability factors such as civil war, terrorism and climate change. TİKA organized an iftar dinner on April 22nd, 2022, the World Orphans’ Day.  

200 orphan boys residing in İmam-I Şafi Children’s Home under Harameyn Foundation were given an iftar dinner on the World Orphans’ Day.

The iftar program was hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Mogadishu and attended by the Turkish missions in Somalia as well as the authorities from Al Harameyn Foundation.
