Humanitarian Aid to 700 thousand people in Arakan

700.000 Arakan Muslims gained access to humanitarian aid with the collaboration of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the Turkish Embassy in Naypydaw and the authorities in the region.

TIKA keeps reaching a helping hand to Arakan Muslims with the projects it implements without a break. Within this framework, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the Turkish Embassy in Naypydaw and the authorities in the region jointly delivered humanitarian aid to the people of Arakan.

After the attacks and the combat in 2012, which took place in Arakan and Myanmar, around 150,000 of people were forced to leave their homes and become refugees or live in bamboo camps for a long time. Many others were forced to leave the country, whose only option was to drown in the cold waters of the ocean. And the remaining muslim people who did not leave had to live under police and military custody in camps and villages, struggling to survive the attacks.

With the collaboration of TIKA, AFAD, Turkish Embassy in Myanmar and the Arakan Local Authority, two large scope humanitarian aid projects were implemented and delivered to the Arakan people in need. More assistance followed, with the collaboration of the same parties, ending up at the hands of the Muslim people struggling to survive and living a life of drama, poverty and famine. The humanitarian assistance material procured from Yangon was shipped to Sitwe, the capital of Arakan, by a rental local ship. With the collaboration of Arakan Local Authority and local non-governmental organization, there was a great effort to help Muslim people out in the holy month of Ramadan.

Muslim people living especially in Aung Mingalar Village, Pauk Taw district, Kye Ni Pin and Nget Chung Villages, which are still suffering from the ongoing raids in Sitve, are among the 13 villages that are resisting. People at the line of fire received the assistance with great appreciation, whose happiness was another thing to take a moment and witness at the combat field. In total, 1.000 tons of rice, 200 tons of chickpeas, 81.5 tons of cooking oil, 5.000 blankets, 20.000 clothing material for men and women and children, 20 tons of dried meat, 15.000 pieces of winter apparel for men and women, 5.000 dozens of drawing notebooks, 10.000 dozens of pen and pencils were delivered to 700.000 people in need at the capital Sitww as well as in Kyauk Taw, Yathaetaung, Pauk Taw, Ponnarkyun, Myauk Oo, Minn Bya, Myay Bon, Maungdtaw and Buthitaung.
