Health Screening in 6 Different Regions of Manila

The medical screening project was carried out by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) in 6 different regions where the poor live in Manila, the capital city of the Philippines, contributing to access to basic health care needs of low-income populations.

More than 15 thousand people benefited from the project, which was co-organized with the Manila Municipality in order to provide the necessary health services to the poor people of Manila, one of the cities with the highest population density in the world, where about 1.8 million people live. The project, which was held in a region every week and lasted for 6 weeks, provided the appointment of doctors, dentists and necessary technical personnel, including volunteers, and supplies of needed medical supplies and medicines.

In addition to medical diagnosis and guidance, dental treatment, optic examination and distribution of eyeglasses, free provision of prescription drugs written by the doctors has been conducted. Moreover, necessary medical devices were supplied and basic medical tests including ECG, sugar measurement, x-ray imaging, blood pressure measurement and blood group detection were performed. Wheelchairs, walking sticks and nebulizer devices used for asthma treatment were also distributed to needy people.

Honey Lacuna, vice chairman of the Manila Municipality, thanked TİKA on her behalf and Manila citizens for the project which is completed with the support of 20 doctors, 5 dentists, 35 municipal employees and volunteers from all provinces. She said the project made a big impact in accessing to health care services that constitute huge deficiency in the lives of Filipinos with low incomes.

TIKA continues to develop and implement projects with the aim of improving the life standards of the people in Philippines and to strengthen the friendship between the two countries.
