Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) delivers food aid to 750 families hit by the landslide in Abi Barik village, Argo district, Badakhsan province in the north-east Afghanistan.

Turkey was the first country to deliver food aid to the region in the wake of massive floods last week in Jowzjan and Sar-e Pol provinces. Turkey acted swiftly, through TIKA again, to emergency food aid to Afghan people hit by the landslide that occurred last Friday in Abi Barik village, Argo district, Badakhsan province in the north-east Afghanistan. Having arrived in the region with the convoy of humanitarian aid, the Turkish Consul at Mazar-i Sharif Deniz Güneş Yeşildağ and TIKA’s Coordinator at Mazar-i Sharif Kemal Kadir Karadoğan reviewed the disaster area and supervised the delivery of aid packages to people.

The Turkish Consul at Mazar-i Sharif Yeşildağ said in his statement that they arrived to see the situation in the region after the landslide and deliver TIKA’s aid. Noting that the disaster was tragic and the people were in severe distress, Consul Yeşildağ confirmed that the solidarity between Turkey and Afghanistan would continue.

TIKA’s Coordinator at Mazar-i Sharif Kemal Kadir Karadoğan expressed their deep sorrow in the event, and noted that Turkey was the first country to deliver food aid through TIKA to Jowzjan and Sar-e Pol provinces following the massive floods last week; likewise, Turkey acted in the first line for aid to this region in the aftermath of disaster.

TIKA’s Coordinator Karadoğan informed that TIKA immediately directed Coordinator Doctor Hamiduddin Yoldaş of Taloqan and Hodja Bahauddin Clinics operated by TIKA along with an ambulance and medical doctors to the area to provide emergency care and medicine to disaster victims. Karadoğan added that a delegation designated by TIKA identified families to receive food aid in packages including wheat flour, rice, oil, sugar, dry tea and macaroni. Coordinator Karadoğan also confirmed that TIKA would always be the side of brotherly Afghan people in distress or better times.

Afghan officials expressed gratitude for TIKA’s food assistance and strong belief that Turkey as the brotherly had always been with Afghan people not only in good times, but also when in distress.
