Erenler Sofrası Set for Needy People All Around Gambia

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided food aid for 1,500 needy families all around Gambia through local administrations and non-governmental organizations. Also, iftar meals were provided for boarding schools and orphanages in need.

TİKA's food aid in Gambia has begun this year in cooperation with the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, the Gambia Federation of the Disabled, and the Municipality of Banjul.

In order to alleviate the impact of COVID-19 in Gambia and to support the needy families in the month of Ramadan, TİKA provided 70 tonnes of food to 1,500 families, orphanages and boarding schools all around the country. The beneficiaries of the food aid provided by TİKA were each handed out 25 kg of rice, 5 liters of oil and 4 kg of sugar.

TİKA also delivered 150 food packages each to the Mayors of Kanifing and Brikama, the two most crowded local government areas in Gambia, to be delivered to the needy families in the region.

The third phase of the food aid was carried out through the local governments of other regions in the country. Thanks to the aid distribution that was carried out in cooperation with the local councils of Basse, Kuntaur, Janjanbureh, Mansakonko and Kerewan, all geographical regions of Gambia were reached. At the handover ceremony, Tolga Bermek, Ambassador of Turkey in Banjul, explained the concept of Erenler Sofrası and thanked TİKA. Moreover, having spoken on behalf of all mayors, Landing Sanneh, the Mayor of Mansa Konko, stated that they had been supported by TİKA for 3 times within the last year and expressed his gratitude to Turkey and TİKA for this.
