12 September 2022Equipment Support by TİKA to Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Centers
In cooperation between Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), equipment and hardware support was provided to Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Centers located in various cities of Afghanistan.
Carrying out various activities with an aim to support generations with protective policies against all types of addiction and provide efficient access to treatment opportunities, TİKA provided equipment and hardware support to Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Centers located in the north of Afghanistan in cooperation with the Regional Directorate of Fight Against Narcotic Drugs.
Equipment and supplies as provided by TİKA include, among others, various kitchen utensils, cooking boilers, stovetops, satellite dish, TV, personal care kits for staff self-care, freezers, washing machines, ventilating fans, and various other equipment.
In addition, AFAD delivered 650 folding beds, pillows, and quilt cover sets to the center with the ‘5th Welfare Train’, which departed from Ankara and arrived at Afghanistan.
The equipment and supplies were delivered to the officials of the Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center with a ceremony.
Among the participants of the equipment delivery and acceptance ceremony were Semih Lütfü Turgut, Republic of Türkiye Mazar-i Sharif Consul General, and Mevlevi Seyfullah Matiullah, Belh Provincial Chief of Police, Mikail Akboğa, Deputy Attache for Religious Services, Burak Kazım Mırık, Afghan–Turkish Education Schools Mazar-i Sharif Male High School Principal, Mikail Taşdemir, TİKA Mazar-i Sharif Coordinator, Mevlevi Abdul Aziz Ahund, Belh Provincial Directorate of Security Chief of Investigation, and Gulam Rabbani Destegir, Belh Provincial Economy Deputy Principal.
Consul General Turgut thanks those who contributed to the cause
During his speech in the ceremony, Consul General Turgut stated that Türkiye has always stood by the people of Afghanistan with tons of humanitarian relief.
Adding that great efforts have been made to deliver aid packages to people who live under harsh conditions in various cities of Afghanistan, Turgut said, “We would like to thank especially those who contributed to the provision of equipment and supplies as required by the center as a result of development projects implemented by technical assistance organizations such as TİKA as well as consistent cooperation with AFAD.”
Mevlevi Abdul Aziz Ahund, Belh Provincial Directorate of Security Chief of Investigation, expresses his gratitude towards Türkiye and TİKA for their support for fighting against narcotic drugs.
33 types of equipment support
Mikail Taşdemir, TİKA Mazar-i Sharif Coordinator, stated that needs of patients who receive treatment in the center were determined based on face-to-face meetings with them and that necessary actions have been taken in this respect. Taşdemir also stated that 33 types of equipment and supplies were delivered to 3 centers operating in various regions of Afghanistan and providing treatment to a total of 650 patients.
Treatment of 2,000 patients accommodated in centers operating in various cities still continues
Based on the information provided by Cuma Han Rasih Kabuli, Directorate of Fight Against Narcotic Drugs Chief of Communication, the number of drug addicts in Afghanistan is estimated to be around 95,000. Within the scope of fighting against drugs and drug addiction, Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Centers operate in 11 different regions in the country. A total of 2,000 patients continue to receive treatment in those centers.
