Clothing Recycling Project in Lebanon

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided 20 clothing banks for the clothing recycling project in Lebanon.

A ceremony was held in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, for the clothing banks delivered by TİKA to Fabricaid, which has been operating in the field of recycling in Lebanon since 2017. The ceremony held for the project was attended by Ali Barış Ulusoy, the Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Beirut; General Mohammed Kheir, Secretary General of the Higher Relief Committee of Lebanon; and Fabricaid officials.

Fabricaid provides to recycle used clothes with 165 clothing collection banks all around the country. The clothes collected to create a chain of social and environmental values are sorted and dry cleaned. Reusable clothes are cleaned, ironed, and offered to those in need at low prices in 4 stores in the cities of Beirut, Tripoli, and Sidon. Clothes that are not in usable condition are offered for reuse through upcycling or recycling.

Nearly 500,000 clothing items have been collected in these clothing collection banks, most of which were made of recycled materials. 410,000 of these items have been offered to those in need. Thanks to these recycling activities, 650,000 kg of carbon emissions from new garment production were avoided.

As part of the project implemented by TİKA in cooperation with Fabricaid, 20 clothing banks were installed at different locations in the cities of Beirut and Chouf. It is aimed to recycle 5,000 clothing items a year through these banks.

To date, TİKA has carried out nearly 150 projects and activities for all segments of the society in all parts of Lebanon in many fields, especially social responsibility, agriculture, education, health, vocational training, and production.
