Capacity Building Support from TİKA to Lebanese Agricultural Cooperative

A solar energy system was installed in the fruit processing workshop of the Lebanese Minjez Agricultural Cooperative by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

In the Minjez town in northern Lebanon, there are workshops within the cooperative established in 1980, where the cutting, drying and packaging of fruits such as apples, apricots, peaches and figs grown in the region are carried out, as well as workshops specialized some points such as honey filtration, fruit juice and meat processing. The cooperative could hardly be operated with low capacity due to continuous power cuts in the northern part of the country and high generator costs resulting from fuel shortages.

As part of the project implemented by TİKA, a solar energy system was installed in the cooperative workshop. The project contributed to the increase of the incomes of about 200 farmer families in the vicinity, by putting the workshop into operation at full capacity, creating new employment opportunities.

The ceremony held for the opening of the project was attended by Türkiye’s Ambassador to Beirut, Ali Barış Ulusoy, TİKA Beirut Program Coordinator Orhan Aydın and cooperative officials.
