Alparslan Türkeş Museum Opens in Nicosia

Vice President Fuat Oktay inaugurated the home in which Founding Leader of the MHP Alparslan Türkeş was born in Nicosia and was turned into a museum by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) upon the instructions of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Oktay was greeted by Ak Party's Ankara MP Tuğrul Türkeş, the son of the late Türkeş, at the Alparslan Türkeş Museum. During his speech at the opening ceremony, Vice President Oktay expressed that the occasion held particular significance for Turkey and TRNC. Highlighting that Turkey and TRNC are eternally one and together, Oktay said, "This monument that we are inaugurating today is one of the most important symbols of our unity and togetherness. The late Türkeş was an invaluable politician not only for Turkey but also for the entire Turkic world. The ideals that he advocated for throughout his life are being followed by his family and the Turkic world. This monument bears significance in that it portrays his service, ideals, and our appreciation for him. This museum will be the symbol of a strong bond for future generations." Oktay underlined that the cultural, social and economic unity between Turkey and TRNC would remain eternal.

Moreover, Prime Minister of TRNC Ersin Tatar expressed his gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for contributing such a great museum to Nicosia. Emphasizing that TRNC is a part of Anatolia and the continuation of the Turkish nation, Tatar stated the following: "I've said this before. TRNC is no longer a foster-land. It is a mature, grown land with borders. This is in line with the feelings of distinguished Türkeş. Türkeş was born in the heart of our nation; he wrote a legacy, exclaimed his Turkish identity to his grassroots and became a representative of TRNC." Tatar expressed that the museum would contribute to the promotion of TRNC and thanked all who were involved.

Moreover, Tuğrul Türkeş stated that his late father Alparslan Türkeş was born in that house 102 years ago. Türkeş remarked that his family was full of gratitude towards Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and thanked TİKA, the government of TRNC and Vice President Oktay for making the monument possible. Vice President Oktay, TRNC Prime Minister Tatar, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan, Parliament Speaker Celal Adan, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Serdar Cam, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Çetin Ali Dönmez and other protocol members inaugurated the museum. Oktay and his entourage then toured the museum.

Alparslan Türkeş Museum

The restoration of the home in which Alparslan Türkeş, a prominent figure in the Turkic world, was born in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was completed upon the instructions of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and thanks to the initiatives of the Alparslan Türkeş Foundation.

The house in Surlariçi, Nicosia where Türkeş was born and raised had been left unkempt and abandoned to its fate for years after the last tenant moved out. The ruined house was in danger of collapsing. The surface of the walls had started crumbling and the wooden stairs were unusable.
